Ghal’eh Roodkhan:

Ghale Roodkhan is a castle that was built during Sasanian era about 1400 years ago.It is located 25 KM out of Fuman city in Gilan province north of Iran.It has been rebuilt several times during the history and that is why it was the location for several wars. Because of its location on top of mountains, rival troops had many difficulties to invade the castle. So For this important reason, it was used as a haven for local governors, their families, and troops. Interestingly, the castle has never been occupied by any invader throughout the history. The castle includes many areas inside such as the Arg or governor palace, troops casern, and 40 ramparts.

Rudkhan Castle:

Rudkhan Castle is a brick and stone medieval castle in Iran. It is a military complex and had been constructed during the Sasanian era  and later  that rebuilt during the Seljuq era

Its architects used natural mountainous features to build the fort.

The Rudkhan Castle River originates in the surrounding heights and also flows from south to north.

After crossing a mountainous you can see a big entrance gate.

Rudkhan Castle is located at the two peaks of a mountain.

The landscape of Gilan province (and also two other provinces north of Iran: Mazandaran and Golestan) are completely different from other parts of the country, especially central parts of Iran.The weather is humid and there are lots of mountainous villages and forest areas here.

The best way to reach this fantastic castle from Rasht is taking taxi and bus to the nearby city of Fuman, and from there you can take a taxi to the Ghale Roodkhan Park which is 22 KM far away. There is a 2 KM that you have to walk this route to get the castle.

 

Things to do and notice when visiting Ghale Roodkhan:

✅Be prepared for a long (2 KM)

✅walk almost 1000 stair each way.

✅Wear proper footwear.

✅Check the weather.

✅Set enough time.

Ghale Roodkhan is near Masuleh a  really beautiful  Village so you may want to plan to visit both places in one day. By the way, the stairway next to the castle is not wheelchair friendly.
